Siren was inspired by early artworks of these bird-woman creatures that have appeared in folklore mythology throughout the world from Ancient Greece to Russia.

I worked with Georgiou Jewellery and strategic creative agency Clout Branding to create a logo and a series of illustrations to showcase Angela Georgiou's jewellery. Inspired by Angela's heritage and earthy style of jewellery, Clout asked me to create illustrations based around themes of Greek mythology.  Art Director: Harry Meakin. Images by Clout Branding.

Inspired by my collection of natural history illustrations of octopus and vintage mermaid images, in particular the sword wielding mermaid of Warsaw.

A continuation on one of my favourite subject matters, memento mori and skeletons in general. Memento mori is latin for "Remember that you must die", a reminder that our time on earth is limited and to not take anything for granted. Inspired by 17-18th century memento mori woodcuts in particular funeral ephemera.

I worked with Abrams Books to illustrate Jack Mitchell’s The Odyssey of Star Wars: An Epic Poem. Jack Mitchell, a scholar of classic literature, has retold the original Star Wars film trilogy in blank verse (unrhymed iambic pentameter). I was tasked to illustrate important scenes in a style reminiscent of Ancient Greek black-figure pottery. Each illustration was created digitally with printmaking textures applied.

Inspired by Saint Gertrude of Nivelles, the patron saint of cats and in honour of the cat ladies in my life.

I worked with Magpie Studio to create illustrations for Senser Spirits. Senser produce healthy, mood enhancing, alcohol free spirits. They planned to launch three spirits that each enhance your mood in a different way. Each flavour is paired with a spirit animal, chosen to represent the corresponding emotion. I was asked to illustrate three spirit animals in a playful way, that also reflected the stories associated with the blend. One of the directions given was tattoo design as inspiration. The tiger in particular is based on Bert Grimm’s iconic tattoo flash. Senser Spirits was awarded a MERIT award in the prestigious ADC Awards 2020 in the category of Packaging. I worked with Exo-Ape to create a logo for Ego, an artist that uses AI to create surreal artworks. I researched into esoteric topics such as alchemy and symbolism.

A logo I created for Intelligentsia Global, a tactical property agency specialising in project visioning and marketing. I was asked to create a timeless logo that highlighted their strength in strategy without being cliché. I also created a small use logo as shown on their business card. I worked with Garage Project to create a beer label for their latest creation, a Bourbon Barrel Aged Espresso & Burned Orange Stout. I was tasked to create an illustration that had roots in demon and occult imagery. The final illustration was inspired by a 16th century woodcut of Lucifer devouring Judas. Artidote is a brand of scented candles that aims to evoke memories through scent. The founder wanted to create a luxury brand identity that was inspired by their passion in fine art, in particular, the artist Joseph Beuys. I was asked to create a logo that incorporated Beuy's famous hare as well as elements of nature. Selected to be displayed in logo compilation publications Modern Heraldry Volume 2 by Counter-Print Books and Flora & Fauna by Victionary. Images by Artidote.

I created a new logo for Get Em Tiger, a web design and digital marketing agency. They wanted the logo to feel strong but friendly and classic but with a modern touch. Type design was by Get Em Tiger and the animation was done by Daniel Benhar. Selected to be displayed in logo compilation publication Modern Heraldry Volume 2 by Counter-Print Books.

Created for Mat Pringle’s “Linocut Coven”, an online printmaking exhibit on the theme of “Witches”. Featuring a crew of folklore and mythology inspired printmakers, hand picked by Mat Pringle.

From my library research I found out that printmaking actually made it worse for women by making the idea of evil witches more widespread. This made me decide to use printmaking to make a more positive depiction of witches.

Inspired by Nicholas Roerich’s iconic painting Mother of the World, and influenced by my research into textiles and traditional clothing. Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947) was an artist, writer, archaeologist, philosopher, and mystic. Roerich promoted peace, the unity of religions and the protection of the world's cultural heritage through the Roerich Pact. He has depicted many great female deities, the most inspiring being Mother of the World.

I worked with Accompany to create a new logo for Hannahs, a New Zealand shoe retailer. They wanted the logo to reflect the heritage of the brand, which had been in existence for over 150 years. They also wanted to incorporate New Zealand flora and fauna, including the pohutukawa flower and tui bird. The Hannahs Trustmark was awarded a MERIT at the 2019 AGDA Awards (Australian Graphic Designers Association) within the Logo and Trademark category. Images by Accompany.

Inspired by Roman/Greek Mythology Goddess Diana, also known as Artemis. She is regarded as a goddess of the hunt, animals and fertility.

Holstee creates monthly mindfulness guides and I was asked to contribute a design on the theme of resilience. I thought that the phoenix, a mythical creature that dies in flames and then rises again from the ashes, seemed like the perfect imagery to symbolise resilience. For visual inspiration, I looked at a lot of birds in coats of arms. Animals in heraldry often have powerful poses, which I thought would suit the theme of resilience. I worked with Strategy Creative to create a series of illustrations for landscaping company Scapegoats. They wanted illustrations that incorporated goats, as well as New Zealand flora and fauna. They also wanted the illustrations to have an other worldly, magical feeling to them. The vector artwork has printmaking textures applied to give a feeling of warmth. The project won gold at the Designers Institute of New Zealand’s Best Design Awards under the Design Crafts/Illustration category and a distinction under the Design Crafts category in the AGDA awards in 2022. The director and founder of Scapegoats also ended up getting one of the illustrations as a tattoo! Photographs by Strategy Creative.

I worked with The Clearing to create a logo and repeat pattern for luxury travel company Scott Dunn. For the logo they wanted a stylised Arctic tern. The Arctic tern has the longest migration of any animal and they found it to be the perfect metaphor for both ‘them and their guests’ love of travel and thirst for adventure.’ I also created a repeat pattern that consisted of flora from different parts of the world as well as different variations of the Arctic tern. I worked with Denomination design studio to create a howling wolf logo for Wise Wolf Wines. Desiring to pave the way for more sustainable packaging solutions, they chose the wolf as a nod to the introduction of wolves back into Yellowstone National Park. Additional criteria included that it would work within a triangular design and complement the typography provided. Images and typography by Denomination.

I worked with branding agency Safari Sunday to help create linocut illustrations for the packaging of Libertine, a new line of premium CBD vape cartridges for Omura. They were inspired by the extravagance of historic coats of arms but wanted a more modern interpretation. Libertine was awarded gold in the 2020 Pentawards. I worked with strategic creative agency Clout Branding to help create illustrations for a series of pocket poetry books written in traditional Welsh curated by author Mererid Hopwood. Ar Gof which means 'In Memory' has a series of die-cut windows, where words are revealed one page at a time to encourage the reader to recall each line of poetry. The client, Atebol, is a Welsh language publisher which produces educational books. The idea was a creative means to encourage readers of all ages to reconnect with traditional Welsh poetry. The lizard brain is a primitive part of our brain that is in control of our fight or flight reflexes. Important when fleeing from real danger but in our daily lives it sets off all sorts of irrational fear alarms. I also wrote a blog post about this print, which you can read here.
